Significant Snow Hits North America and Europe

From Verbier to Colorado, the 2025/26 season begins. Check how conditions change between the top, mid, and bottom lifts.

The multi-elevation forecast advantage in action: the Snow Forecast crew enjoying deep snow up high, smooth turns around mid-mountain, and a spring-green valley below.

The Multi-Elevation Forecast Advantage: Find the Snowline Before You Go

When snow conditions change with altitude, local knowledge makes all the difference. At the start and end of the season, the snowline can rise or fall by hundreds of metres in a day, and that can make or break your plans.

With Snow-Forecast's site-specific data for the top, mid, and bottom lifts, you can see exactly where the freezing level sits, how temperatures shift with elevation, and where the best snow will be waiting.

Whether you're heading out for a ski tour, choosing which lift to take first, or planning a family day on the hill, a multi-elevation forecast shows the full picture, from powder up high to greenery below.

Our detailed view lets you switch seamlessly between the top, mid, and bottom lifts to pinpoint the best conditions for your next run.

Winter Begins Now: First lifts, fresh snow, and early signs of a classic season

From glacier powder in Europe to fresh snow in Alaska, the 2025/26 season is underway.
Welcome back to Snow Forecast for Winter 2025 / 26

Winter Begins Now

Fresh snow, first lifts, and the
early signs of a classic season ahead

The leaves are turning, the air is crisp, and the chairlifts are starting to spin—welcome back to the Northern Hemisphere winter!

After cheering on our Southern Hemisphere friends—Australia just wrapped one of its best seasons this century—all eyes now turn to the promise of the 2025/26 ski season. Early signals are encouraging, pointing to the possibility of a colder, snowier winter for many key regions.

Why We're Optimistic

Many meteorological centres are tracking a developing weak La Niña pattern, alongside strong early snowpack in the Arctic and Siberia.

Historically, this setup often tips the odds toward above-average snowfall and colder conditions across northern North America and parts of northern Europe. While it's too soon for guarantees, the global signals suggest the potential for a memorable "old-school" winter.

Where the Snow is Falling

You don't have to wait for December—the season has already begun. Our latest Snow News confirms that glacier resorts are delivering excellent early-season conditions. Hintertux is 50% open with powder skiing, while Saas Fee boasts up to 140 cm of packed powder.

More openings are expected this week, including Mölltal Glacier and Kaprun (Kitzsteinhorn). Over in the US, the Alaska mountains report 9" of fresh snow.

We'll be tracking it all in our weekly Snow Roundups.

Wax your skis and boards—winter is here.
